PERSONAL HYGIENE PROGRAM

In our commitment to provide comprehensive services to the community, St. Vincent de Paul has made an earnest attempt to offer free showers to the homeless who utilize the organization for services. The Homeless Persons Personal Hygiene Program is the first step towards good health and grooming. Self-esteem, confidence and motivation can all be altered by our body image, often reflected on our ability to care for ourselves and keep good hygiene practices. Maintaining these hygiene practices helps to reduce the risks of ill health, while creating a sense of pride and dignity.

Within the Food Center facility, St. Vincent de Paul has three (2 regular and 1 handicapped accessible) showers. These showers are made available on a nightly basis, in conjunction with the Night Shelter check-in. Staff oversee the program and offer grooming supplies and clean clothing for those who desire them. Many of these donated items, such as towels and toiletries, are donated to our Homeless Persons Personal Hygiene Program through the generosity of the DoubleTree Beach Resort by Hilton on North Redington Beach.

In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, while also working to help the community, the DoubleTree Beach Resort created a new procedure for cleaning rooms by keeping a bucket on each housecleaner's cart so that unused portions of soaps, lotions, shampoos and conditioners could be collected for use by St. Vincent de Paul clients. In addition to these toiletry items, the DoubleTree has also donated discarded linens and towels to be used by persons in the shelter and transitional living program.
